Rites for Nonagenarian Held Saturday Morning
Mrs. Mary Magdalene Cole, formerly of Corydon, passed away last Thursday at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. David Cole, in Bruceville,
Knox county. She would have been 97 years old on April 23.
Mrs. Cole was born in Harrison county April 23, 1837, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ephraim Briles. When 17 years old she was united in marriage to Allen Amy. To this union were born three children, William Henry, Sarah Ellen and Cassaranda, all of whom preceded her in death. In 1883 she was married to William A. Peters, who died in 1885. Her third husband, David Cole, died in 1902. In her later life she became a member of the Corydon Christian Church, where she attended as long as her health permitted.
Mrs. Cole suffered the fracture of her hip in March, 1933, and after that time was in feeble health. She was taken several weeks ago to Bruceville to be cared for by her granddaughter.
The survivors are ten grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren; eighteen great-great-grandchildren; one son-in-law, Edward B. Swan, and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Hester C. Amy.
The body was brought Thursday by Beanblossom & Son, undertakers, to their establishment here, where funeral services were held at 10 o'clock Saturday morning in charge of the Rev. Edward Rudicel, of Corydon, assisted by the Rev. D. L. Scull, of New Middletown, and the Rev. E. B. Catt, of Mauckport. Mrs. Rudicel, accompanied by Mrs. Noble Beanblossom, sang at the services
Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
