GAS IN ABANDONED HOLE

Salem, Indiana, Feb. 20-The Standard Oil Company has completed its first well drilled in this locality after going 85 feet in Trenton rock. The depth of the well is 1,000 feet. The well was abandoned and the tools removed. Two or three days later, a strong flow of gas was discovered. The drillers say this indicates the present of oil. Other wells will be drilled as rapidly as possible.
