My grandmother was Eva Raney McKinney from southern Indiana. There was a Sarah Frances Raney Riddle, I think from Ky. Does this help? Other Raney names include William Everett Raney, and Absolom (Abslom) Raney (Rainey)

Yes, there are several spellings for the same name Burdiss/Bardis/Berdis, etc. Francis Burdiss was born ca 1830-32 Ireland. According to his declaration to become citizen dated 22 Jul 1856 in Perry County, IN, he was born in Ireland, was ca 26 years of age, and that he arrived in New York on 8 June 1853.
Bridget Gannon (born 1869 who married first Emil Huber and second George Seitz) was daughter of John Gannon and Mary (Burdiss).

I have a real mystery. My mother's parents were in Perry County, IN. Tell City and Cannelton areas. The Murphy came from Ireland to Pottsville, PA to Hawesville then to Cannelton. He was Mike (Michael) and she was Mary (Burdiss). They had two sons, John (age 3, PA, in 1860 census) and Michael (Mike) age 5 (re: census) in Hawesville, KY. BUT John appears on two censuses. He is also listed in the 1869 Perry County census as John Murphy, 3, PA in the household of Frances and Cath Bardis from Ireland. Is Bardis another spelling of Burdiss? Burdiss is from the death certificates of the sons. Another part of the mystery comes from my grandmother's best friend Bridget Gannan m. Emil J. Huber July 26, 1898. Drop down a few lines and there is a John Gannor m. Mary Burdiss on Feb. 27, 1865. Is this a misspelling of the surname and these were Bridget's parents? I was told by my mother that her grandmother's maiden name was Early (sp) then I find Burdiss on each of the four death certificates. Is there anyone tracing any of these lines or anyone who is challenged by a good mystery?

The other is my grandmother Dailey's maiden name. Was it Raney or Ramsey? I have a marriage bond and license from Union County, KY for a Peter Dailey and a MRS. Sarah Raney. Sarah does not have a maiden name listed however there are Ramsey's living in Uniontown, KY in the 1860 census. The marriage was in August of 1861. Both Sarah and Peter gave their residences as Uniontown. There are also Daileys living in Uniontown but neither are listed in the 1860 census although there is a Sarah Ramsey. Their daughter Anna married John Murphy Feb. 2, 1861 in Perry County. Anna's sister Minnie married March 12, 1891. She listed her mother's name as Sarah Ramsey. The book I was looking in did not have the husband info. It was the Supplemental Record.

Sure hope there is someone that can help. Thanks in advance.
Ann
