There is a newspaper article available.
New Albany Daily Ledger Standard 8 Mar 1880 p4 c2:
Steamboatman Saltkeld, Who is Aged About Three-quarters of a Century, relates Some of his Old Experiences on the River. Peter Saltkeld, of Muddy Fork, Clark county,k is one of the oldest steamboatmen living. He was born in Pittsburgh, the 15th of October 1805, and is, consequently nearly 75 years old, and bids fair to live a number of years yet. . . . [long article, biography]

This is Donna Kaye Burns, daughter of Evelyn Salkeld who was (passed 5/3/97)the daughter of Arthur & Mae (Mann) Salkeld. Larry Ben Salkeld is my uncle. I would like to talk with young Larry Salkeld if that would be possible. I can be emailed at davisdonnak@yahoo.com Davis is my married name. Although I have no contact with his father, I do know his whereabouts if he is interested. Again,I would love to talk with anyone who has any info or is related to Arthur & Mae (Mann)Salkeld or any of their children, Robert (Bob), James (Jim or Jimmy), Evelyn (Evie), Donald (Don) and Larry Ben.

I use to have a friend named Larry Salkeld. I believe as of today he would be about 23 or 24 years of age. His dad was also named Larry Salkeld, but he never met his dad. He had gone to prison or something. But, I think they were from Indiana. When I knew him they lived in Pekin, IN. Now they live in New Castle, KY.

I've been told my grandfather, Arthur Salkeld, owned and operated a small dry cleaning shop on Vincennes St. across from New Albany High School. I know so little about him. He was married to Mae and they had 5 children: Robert, Jim, Evelyn, Donald and Ben or Larry Ben. Arthur was ill (I believe TB) and moved to Arizona for his health sometime in the late 1940's or early 1950's. Any information you could provide me about the Salkeld family would be appreciated. Thank you.
