Kentuckiana Genealogy: County: Crawford Co., Indiana: Joel Ray, state representative

I am searching for information on the Joel Ray family of Crawford County, IN. Joel (1801-1857) married Matilda Brown. Joel was possibly an IN state representative in the early 1850s. Does anyone have any information on this family and/or know of a convenient way to determine information on his political career, if he had one? Thank you. His son, Jonathan Wilson Ray, married Sarah Staniford.
