Kentuckiana Genealogy: Queries: General Queries: Any Merriett/Sheckell connections in Crawford County, or Washinton Co, Indiana?

I noticed East Cemetery had several Sheckell or Sheckells, and several Merriett, and some Mitchell stones. I wonderd if any of you know connections between these.

My grandfather's name was John Shackles(or Sheckles not sure of spelling) Merritt. He was born in l854. He married a Mary Jane Mitchell, daughter of Lorenzo Dow Mitchell.

His father was John S. Merritt. We are not sure if the "S" is Sheckles or Samuel...have heard both. He married Eleanor (Nelly) Blackburn in l840 in Washington County, but was in Crawford for the l840 census.

I want to find John S. Merritt's parents. I suspect that the mother's maiden name could be Sheckles or some variant spelling. Does anyone know of any marriages between these two families?
Perhaps since John was born in Ky, the marriage took place in Kentucky.

If anyone is researching the families in East Cemetery, I would really like to know.
