The Story of Leavenworth, Crawford Co., IN
-------------------------------------------
A very interesting story told to me by a long time resident
(he is in his 80's) of Leavenworth. His great grandmother,
who was living at the same time as Zebulon and Margaret (Patterson)
Leavenworth, said that the way Leavenworth Indiana was founded is this:

Zebulon and Seth were going down the Ohio River and Zebulon
decided to stop along a beautiful area, a bend in the river.
Zebulon said that they'd stop there and build a town. Seth said
no, he wanted to go further down the river. An argument started
over this. During the dispute Seth was knocked out of the boat,
and Zebulon offered to help him back in... but Seth wanted no part
of his brothers help, he climbed back in on his own. Zebulon got
out of the boat, and began to explore the land. Seth went on. A
couple days later Seth returned to where he had left his brother
(reason unknown) and Zebulon showed his brother the beautiful
lands that would become the town of Leavenworth.
