In many counties, where the cemetery is county property [generally, this
excludes private/family-owned cemeteries unless they have been 'given'
to the county], a person such as an elected county commissioner (or
whatever the county uses to describe a commissioner's position) is
responsible for the upkeep of a cemetery. This may only include mowing,
but at least, that is something in the way of progress. I know there
are many old cemeteries that are 'no longer in use', but most counties
with any pride - or grit - will at least see to the mowing/removal of
trash/fallen tree branches, etc., of these cemeteries. Suggest letters
be written to the County Board of Commissioners - whatever it is called
in the individual county - and light a fire under some of these people.
Sometimes the county board is not even aware of the condition of some of
the county cemeteries. Letters oughta tell them what's what.
