Responding to the query about BAKER in Orange County, Indiana. I find
it interesting that when they moved to Illinois, someone married a
DAUGHERTY.
In the early days of Orange County, Indiana, Samuel FRENCH moved to the
Northwest Township of Orange County, Indiana. He married Julia Ann
DAUGHERTY and they died in 1841 and 1854 respectively and are buried in
the French Cemetery on the farm where they lived.
My 3rd GGrandmother, Mary Ann FRENCH, married David Simpson BRUNER.
Mary Ann was born 11 March 1827 in Orange County and married David 14
November 1844 in Orange County. They eventually moved to Jasper County,
Iowa (Kellogg). This could go on and on and if anyone is interested, I
will be glad to share what I have on these people.
I am mainly trying to find out WHERE in Kentucky Julia Ann and Samuel
were from. Also, their parents names would be wonderful.
Anyone familiar with these people?
Thanks so much,
Janice Chastain Lund

Regarding Ohio Falls.....I have some papers somewhere regarding my ancestor having a ferry boat service (Joseph OATMAN, is his name, by the way) below Ohio Falls. Joseph lived in Harrison County, Indiana. If you give me a few days and jog my memory, perhaps I can find the article. It was titled "Ohio FALLS......etc., etc.!! and was in some papers sent to me about my PITMAN'S and OATMAN families that tied in with the NANCE family.
Maybe this will give you a clue where to look.

Hi Joe:
I have an Elizabeth MAUCK who married a Johannes BITTMAN (John PITMAN)
and they lived in Harrison County, Indiana. Get back to me after you
check out this website which can probably tell you everything you ever
wanted to know about the name MAUCK....
rmoore@cybergate.com
This is the e-mail address of the MAUCK Family listowner, Ron Moore for
MOCK-GEN-L@HOME.EASE.LSOFT.COM
Just tell him your names and he will probably match you up with
ancestors all the way back to Germany. Also, he can tell you how to
subscribe to this mailing list on the family.
Then get back to me because if you descend from who I think you do, we
are probably cousins!!!!

To Angel and others:
Found my OATMAN papers. In 1882, there was a book called "History of
Ohio Falls Cities and Their Counties with illustrations and biographical
sketches" Vol. II, Cleveland, O.....L. A. Williams and Co. 1778 - 1882
is how the frontspiece of the book reads! ....my Joseph OATMAN went to
Kentucky and settled near New Albany on the Ohio river....says he was
buried near New Albany on the Kentucky side of the river. Joseph and
his wife are found in Garrard Co., KY and Lincoln County, KY. There are
also two land records in the Jeffersonville Land Office records 28 April
1807. On 10 July 1807, the Executive Journal of Indiana Territory
1800-1816 says that on this date, Joseph OATMAN of Clark County was
granted a license to keep a ferry across the Ohio four miles below
Clarksville and was signed by William Henry Harrison.
Well, glad I found this info. Better "input" it into my computer. How
many are as guilty as I of NOT inputing but find it more exciting to
hunt down "more and more" information. Won't do me any good unless I
can get my hands on it.....I'm learning the hard way.
Hope this helps you out. I tried to mention as many places as I could
to give you an idea where to look. See if your library has the Ohio
Falls book....you might find your people in there too!!!GOOD LUCK! Let
me know!

Hi!
Have been trying to find the parents of Mary Ann Marilda Elizabeth
HICKMAN who married Nicholas RICE about 1764 in Jefferson County,
Kentucky. Nicholas' father was Johnathan RICE who was born 10 October
1720 in Union Township, Fayette Co., Kentucky. He married Margaret ? .
No more info.
Their daughter, Elizabeth was born 25 October 1765. She married Adam
BRUNER, Sr. 07 June 1785 in Jefferson County, Kentucky. Adam BRUNER was
born 08 May 1763 in Shephardstown, Berkeley, WV. Elizabth was born in
Pennsylvania...not known where. Elizabeth and Adam had the following
children:
Adam BRUNER, Jr.; David BRUNER; Nicholas BRUNER, Catherine BRUNER,
Charles BRUNER; Elizabeth BRUNER; Hickman BRUNER and Margaret BRUNER.
This family moved on to Rio, Knox County, Illinois.
Someone had Mary Ann Marilda HICKMAN's father as Charles HICKMAN. Does
anyone have any knowledge of these families, especially if Charles "IS"
her Father. Any information on any of these families would be
appreciated! I have quite a bit of information on the BRUNER family if
anyone needs a lookup!
Thank you very much, Jan Lund

I can't remember what counties this list covers now....could Orange
County, Indiana be included? I desperately need to find the parents for
Samuel DOUGHERTY/DAUGHERTY who lived in Orange County, Indiana. His
daughter, Julia Ann married Samuel FRENCH. I have the obituary for
Samuel FRENCH and I know where and when Julia lived and died. But I
can't tie this family in to the other DOUGHERTY's who lived in Orange
County. Julia was born 11 October 1796 and married Samuel FRENCH in
1827. There was a George DOUGHERTY who could have been Samuel's
Father...actually there were several George's if I'm not mistaken. Also
need to find out who Samuel FRENCH's parents were. Have no clue there.
Any advice or help would be appreciated!
Thank you,
Jan Lund

Hi everyone!
I am on several lists...Pennsylvania, Virginia, etc....and I see people
asking for lookups in various books. Does anyone know if there is
anyone who has access to Orange County, Indiana wills that can look up
some names for me. I will gladly pay for this service....just let me
know. I am trying to sort out the DOUGHERTY/DAUGHERTY's and find MINE!
Since I have no will books, it is pretty hard!
Advice, anyone????
