Hobbs, Leroy
Died June 24, 1947, Alton, Indiana.

Alton - Leroy Hobbs, son of Thomas and Belona Dixon Hobbs, was born near Siberia in Perry County, April 25, 1875, and died at his home in Alton on June 24, 1947, in his seventy third year.

He was orphaned early and went to work in and around Birdseye and Fordsville, Ky. He served two enlistments in the U.S. Army and was stationed in the Philippines during the Spanish American War. When he returned to civil life, he worked in the South then came to Mill Creek Valley and took up farming, which he followed until no longer able to work.

He married Annie E. Calberry on August 2, 1921, and they had one son, Levi Allan. She died in 1925. On April 25, 1931, he married Belle Myers. He was a loving husband, an indulgent father, a kind, generous neighbor and friend.

He was a member of the Alton Baptist Church the Masonic Lodge at Alton, and William A. Critchfield Camp Veterans Spanish-American War, Birdseye.

Surviving him are his wife, son, little granddaughter, Martha Ellen; daughter in law Laura; sister, Mrs Sallie Cox of English, and many other relatives and friends.

The funeral was held at the Alton Baptist Church on June 26, with the Rev Jean Osborn officiating. The service at Orchard Knob cemetery was conducted by Alton Lodge No. 202.

He is not dead, he is just away.
