Collings was born in Clark County, Indiana, December
24, 1820, and departed this life July 28, 1892, aged 71 years, 7 months
and 4 days. He was a grandson of William Collings who fought the
Indians at the time of the Pigeon Roost defeat. He was a soldier in the
late war. He joined the M.E. Church at Vienna in the year 1842 and
lived a devoted, consistent Christian life until called to his reward.
He filled the offices of Sunday school superintendent, class leader,
steward, trustee and exhorter, the last position he held until his
death. He loved his family, his neighbor, his country, his church and
his God. He was married to D.J. Higgins, Jan.21, 1846. To them two
sons and seven daughters were born. One son and three daughters have
passed on before. He leaves a wife, one son, four daughters,
thirty-four grandchildren and one great grandson to mourn his
departure. Uncle Zeb, as he was familiarly called, was known and
respected by everybody, for his piety, his Christian zeal, his personal
integrity and his kind disposition.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Heart failure was the immediate cause of his sudden death. Rev. Jabe
Mahan of Lexington preached an impressive funeral sermon at the New
Chapel church where an extremely large audience assembled and the
remains were taken to old Chapel Cemetery for interment.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Zebulon Freemont Collings b 24 Dec 1820, Clark Co.
