In December 1897 the heirs of James S. Webb sold 61.97 acres on the Ohio River just south of Laconia to John T. Ashton – this tract of land was known as Tobacco Landing. In 1911 John T. Ashton and his wife Ann sold the 61 acres at Tobacco Landing to their oldest child, Arthur. The Arthur Ashton family continued to operate the landing until the river traffic was diminished. Almost 50 years later, in 1960, the heirs of Arthur H. Ashton and Minerva, his wife, sold the landing.
