I have discovered a clue about an ancestor, but it requires somebody checking the Jennings County court records.
In The Executive Proceedings of Indiana, 1816-1836,(published by Indiana Historical Bureau in 1947), on page 347:
1829 Pardons and Remissions
Feb. 2 A fine against Robert RODGERS for $ ______ (MS is blank) upon conviction before John DUNSTON; a justice of the peace of Jennings County. is remitted—
[A footnote reads:]
A marginal notation in pencil reads “Vawter to pay.” The petitioner’s name appears as ROGERS.
End quote
I would like to find out what count Robert Rodgers/Rogers was convicted upon. I am assuming that John Vawter was the man who paid for him. I would dearly appreciate anybody who is around the Jennings County files looking up Judge Dunston’s records to find out for me.
Many thanks,
