HAESSICK, HAESSIG, HASSIG, HESSEG, HESSICK, HESSIG posted by Sherri Hessick on Sunday, June 21, 1998

Searching for parents of Henry Frederick HESSIG (Hassig, Haessig, Hesseg, Haessick, Hessick) who was born between 1848 and 1852 in southern Indiana. Henry married Ruth FULLER (daughter of Noah FULLER and Hannah WALLER) in 1880 in Perry county, Indiana. They had one son, Noah Henderson HESSIG. Ruth died in 1884 in Perry county. Henry then married Barbara Ellen KELLEMS in 1887 in Perry county. They lived in Perry, Dubois, and Clark counties, Indiana and were the parents of five sons and three daughters. Henry's father was George HESSIG who reportedly immigrated from Germany in 1848 with his brother (name unknown). His mother's name is unknown. I have found records of George HESSIG (with various spellings) in Dubois and Spencer counties, Indiana. These records have him coupled with Elizabeth KRIGER (Kruger), Julia SCHOENBACH, and Catherina RICHTER. Unfortunately, they usually say that George was born in France. I am looking for evidence that these are all the same George and/or one of them was the father of my Henry. Additionally, I need to know who Henry's mother was. Any assistance will be gratefully accepted.

BURKHART, NEWKIRK, RAY, RICE posted by Rita Ray on Sunday, June 21, 1998

I am seeking additional information on Jacob RICE and Mary BURKHART who married in Floyd County, IN, on March 7, 1840. A daughter, Sarah Catherine RICE, was born May 17, 1843. I have been unable to find any record of what happened to Jacob RICE, but Mrs. Mary RICE married Elias NEWKIRK in Crawford County, IN, on October 1, 1849. I have located the Elias NEWKIRK family on the Crawford County census records for 1850-1870 in Crawford. By 1880 they were in Lamar County, Texas. According to information in a family Bible, Mary died January 2, 1899, and was buried near Cooper in Delta County, Texas. Any additional help on Jacob RICE and Mary BURKHART will be greatly appreciated. I have collected considerable data on the descendants of Sarah Catherine RICE RAY that I am willing to share.

BURKHART, NEWKIRK, RAY, RICE posted by Rita Ray on Sunday, June 21, 1998

My gg-grandfather, James RAY, was born in Kentucky in 1799, according to census records. He married Jane NEWKIRK in Crawford County, IN, in 1838. Any information about his parents and/or siblings will be greatly appreciated. I don't have the name of the Kentucky county where he was born. The information related by a great-uncle is as follows: Two RAY boys, more than two hundred years ago, came from Scotland to Charleston, South Carolina, on into North Carolina. One of the boys married and had some sons, one of whom was James Jacob RAY’s great grandfather, called Harv, or Harvey. Harv married, and his family came by water on a raft to Kentucky, sailing part of the way on the Ohio River. Harv built a big raft and put all his family and stock on it and sailed down the Ohio River around 1775. James Jacob’s grandfather, Jim RAY, was born in 1799 in Kentucky on the Cumberland River. Jim RAY enlisted in the Texas and Mexico War of 1836. He bought a fine horse and rode to Sam HOUSTON’s headquarters in Texas. When he got there, the Battle of San Jacinto had already been fought, and the war was over. He went back to Kentucky and into Crawford County, Indiana, where he married Jane NEWKIRK in 1839 or 1840 when he was about forty years old. Any help on Jacob RICE and Mary BURKHART will be greatly appreciated. I have collected considerable data on the descendants of Cornelius N. and Sarah Catherine RAY that I am willing to share.

DUNCAN, RAIN, RAINS posted by Sheri Anderson on Sunday, June 21, 1998

RAIN, KATHERINE (Mrs) married Isaac GOODIN 16 September 1826 in Hardin Co., Kentucky. I am working on the DUNCAN family out of South Carolina. One of the Duncan daughters, Katherine is suppose to have married an unknown RAINS prior to 1800; their first child (Emory RAINS) was born in Warren County TN in 1800. Mrs. Rains is suppose to have remarried prior to 1830 and quite possibly moved to either Texas or Missouri thereafter. Is anyone following either the GOODIN or RAIN family line that contains this marriage? I am more than happy to share what information I have on any of the other families I am researching.
