ROBINSON posted by Sharon Williamson on Thursday, February 11, 1999

I am searching for information on Benjamin Robinson. All I currently know is that he listed his place of birth as Kentucky on the 1850 Boone County Missouri census. His wife's name is given as Mariah and his children Edward L and Mary C are also indicated with place of birth Kentucky, his other children John T, Ambrose G, Milton H, Sarah F, Richard L (my direct ancestor) and Benjamin H are all shown as being born in Boone County Missouri. Ages of the children compared to where they were born indicate Benjamin and Mariah went from Kentucky to Missouri during the 1832-1836 time period. I am also seeking the maiden name of Mariah and if I can locate the county in Kentucky where they were from perhaps I can find there marriage records.

THACKSTON, THAXTON, THICKSTON, THIXTON posted by Scott Hudson on Thursday, February 11, 1999

John THAXTON was an early settler in Warren County, TN circa 1808. John THIXTON is recorded as having served with George Rogers Clark in Oct., 1782 with the Jefferson County, KY (VA) militia. Confusion is that a John Thaxton is also listed in Wilkes County, NC census for 1790 and 1800, while John Thixton is named in 1790 census. A Dec 3, 1783 order by an "Act of the Assembly" passed "May last to 400 acres of land each" included John Thixton - but where was this land? This statement came from Jefferson County Kentucky Records Volume I. George Rogers Clark grants were generally in Indiana. Could it have been in NC? And why were 400 acres granted? This is more than usually granted; even for the soldiers involved in the Vincennes campaign, 100 or 200 were about all alloted, the 200 reserved for officers.

KENNEDY, PARKER, TURNER, VOORHEES posted by Cathy Love on Friday, February 26, 1999

I am searching for information on the KENNEDY,VOORHEES,TURNER,and PARKER families of Hardin County Kentucky. Areas of interest are: Youngers Creek and Youngers Creek cemetery, Stithton (now part of Fort Knox),Rineyville, and Vine Grove. Time period would be 1830-1950. Decker Kennedy was the section Foreman for the Illinois Central Railroad in Rineyville. He was the father of three girls and six sons. All of the children except one graduated from high school in either Rineyville or Vine Grove. (The eldest John Henry Kennedy, was born ca:1896.) I know that Decker and his wife Mattie Turner Kennedy went to different churches which were located almost across from each other in Rineyville. Can anyone tell me what these two churches were? I know one was Baptist. I would be very interested in any information that anyone has on these towns or surnames. If you know of any books or reading related to this area and time period I would love to hear about it. Thank you, Cathy Love bigdaddypearl@mindspring.com
